Sparta Flower Shoppe, 1940s
Sistie Hudson notes that Jewel Stewart opened the Sparta Flower Shoppe here in the 1940s and it served that purpose until closing upon Ginger Yarbrough’s retirement in August 2018. It’s a great structure.

First Christian Church, 1912, Jefferson
This is one of several structures in Jackson County featuring decorative siding built by E. Scott Ethridge, who owned the local concrete plant. His own residence on the adjacent lot features the siding, as well.

Historic Storefronts, Flovilla
Heard Street, running parallel to the railroad tracks, is Flovilla’s historic commercial center.
Much of the space is now occupied by the Victory Tabernacl. When I was photographing, mid-day on a Friday, the church was meeting and I could hear gospel music coming from inside, just as the sign promised.
