Confederate Monument, 1910, Monticello
In his book about Georgia’s Confederate monuments, The Standing Army, Frank M. McKenney wrote: “The town square of Monticello was crowded with people and festooned with Confederate colors on 6 April 1910…a 32′ shaft flanked by two young soliders was unveiled.”
The monument was sponsored by the UDC and was designed by E. B. Frazier of the McNeel Marble Company.

Commercial Storefronts, Monticello
Monticello has a very inviting courthouse square, with beautiful commercial architecture surrounding a people-friendly park. One of the standouts to me is the Jasper Lodge No. 50 F & AM, or the Masonic Lodge.
Typical turn-of-the-century commercial architecture is still in regular use.
Take some time to walk around the square and check it out.

This was likely built in the Federal style. The front porch and Victorian ornamentation are later additions.
